      • The ECCS’10 European Conference on Complex Systems will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, an organization of the Complex Systems Society. ECCS’10 will be located at the Lisbon University Institute, from the 13th to 17th September, 2010. The main conference tracks will be presented on the 13th, 14th and 17th September and the Satellite Meetings will occur on the 15th and 16th September, 2010.
      • The 2nd Winter School in Complexity Sciences will take place at the Lisbon University Institute, on January 11-15, 2010. The programme of this edition is organized around the subject "Formal approaches to the representation and interpretation of network structures". The Winter School will propose a state-of-the-art of the new theories, methodologies and algorithmic proposals to the study of topological features of complex networks.

      • 8 October 2009. The Santa Fe Institute (SFI) is selectively seeking applications for Omidyar Fellowships, starting in the Fall of 2010. Fellows are appointed for up to three years during which they pursue research questions of their own design and are encouraged to transcend disciplinary lines. SFI’s unique structure and resources enable Fellows to collaborate with members of the SFI faculty, other Fellows, and researchers from around the world. Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or expect to receive one by September 2010), an exemplary academic record, and a proven ability to work independently.

            • 3 June 2009. David Rodrigues, student at the Master Program in Complexity Sciences, has presented his master dissertation "Detecção de comunidades no sistema de correio electrónico universitário" (text in portuguese). The presentation and discussion was in english. Supervisors: John Symons (Univ.of Texas) and Jorge Louçã (ISCTE). 
            • 20 May 2009. Wolfram|Alpha is the first step in an ambitious, long-term project to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable by anyone. You enter your question or calculation, and Wolfram|Alpha uses its built-in algorithms and growing collection of data to compute the answer.
            • 6 May 2009. The Doctoral Program in Complexity Sciences, complementary to the Master Program with the same name, has been approved by the ministry. It is official: the international Master and Doctoral Programs in Complexity Sciences will start next September, at ISCTE - Lisbon University Institute, with all sessions presented in English.
            • 27 April 2009. Seminar: Serge Galam, research director at the French CNRS, physicist and founder of the Sociophysics research domain, will present a seminar on Saturday, 16th May 2009, 11h, room C103. Sociophysics aims at a statistical physics modeling of large scale social phenomena, like opinion formation or crowd behavior. A review of the Galam models can be found here. Presentation in English.             • February 18th, 2009. António Leal, student at the Master Course in Complexity Sciences, has presented his master dissertation "Modelação do Sistema Rodoviário: Na Perspectiva do Conflito Emergente" (text in portuguese). Supervisors: Paulo Urbano (FCUL) and João Luís Baptista (UNL). 


            • February 18th,  2009. André Morais, student at the Master Program in Complexity Sciences, has presented his master dissertation "Reflexão Sobre a Extrapolação e Estudo de Sistemas Sociais – da Antropologia para as Ciências da Complexidade" (text in portuguese). Supervisors: Graça Cordeiro (ISCTE) and Jorge Louçã (ISCTE).
            • December15th, 2008. Nuno Rocha, student at the Master Course in Complexity Sciences, has presented his master dissertation "Ligações Preferenciais por Proximidade e Semelhança em Redes de Processamento de Informação" (text in portuguese). Supervisor: Luis Correia (FCUL).
            • November 20th, 2008. Following the 1st ICC Workshop, held in January 2008, the 2nd ICC Winter Workshop on Complexity in Social Systems will be held the 10th January 2009 and will concern the study of social structures in communication networks. The 2009 edition of the ICC Workshop will be associated with the Complexity Sciences Winter School, that will occur just before. 
            • November 20th, 2008. The Complexity Sciences Winter School will take place at  ISCTE - Lisbon University Institute, between the 5th and the 9th January 2009. In this edition the Winter School will propose an interdisciplinary approach for the study of appearing new social structures supported by communication networks, such as Internet. This approach associates the scientific domains of philosophy of science, computer networks, social networks, and social simulation. The Winter School will be the first event associated to the new International Doctoral Program in Complexity Sciences, allowing to present the new academic program scientific goals and organization. IDPCS students are wellcome and will have preferential attaining conditions. 
            • October 13th, 2008. The International Doctoral Program in Complexity Sciences has been approved today by the Senate of the University of Lisbon (UL). The doctoral program has now been approved by both ISCTE and UL.
            • September 17th, 2008. The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon) will open Darwin's Evolution, an exhibition celebrating Charles Darwin's 200th birthday on February 12th, 2009. The exhibition will trace the development of Biology, from its roots in Renaissance Natural History to modern advances in Genetics.
