John Symons
John Symons has a PhD in philosophy from Boston University. He is professor at the University of Texas at El Paso since 2001, where he works on philosophy of psychology, epistemology and related areas. His research concerns emergence, computational models, category theory and epistemic logic. In 2002 he became editor-in-chief of the Synthese magazine. He was voted a permanent member of the Institut International de Philosophie for Ireland in 2004 and an associate member of the Institut d'Histoires et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Techniques in 2005. In 2005 John Symons held a visiting position in Peking University and more recently have served as an outside advisor to the program in complexity at the IUL in Lisbon. In 2007 he was elected vice-president of the New Mexico West Texas Philosophical Society.
